Don was born in Oklahoma, raised in Kansas but got to Texas as soon as he could. He grew up in a hard-working, middle class family from whom he learned the importance of hard work and respect for individual liberties.
From the moment I first said the words of the Oath of Enlistment to join the Army in 1997, they have stuck with me. Especially the part about defending our constitution against enemies, foreign and domestic. Although at the time I would never imagine we would have to protect it from people in our own government who would like to see it and many of our constitutionally protected rights disappear.
